Backwards compatible 60GB PS3 "first time problem"
« on: February 14, 2010, 11:04:44 pm »
Downloaded the 3.15 firmware patch, PS3 booted back up fine after it had finished DL the firmware.  As soon as it got back to the XMB it started to lag out then froze, beeped 3 times and shut itself off to a blinking red light.  This problem persists no matter how many fans i have blowing on it.

I pulled it all apart and tested the fan cause usually the fan would ramp up really high then level out upon startup which i found to be norm cause it had done it that way ever since i bought it yet now when it kicks on it just holds a low cyclic rate.  Soo.... put it all back together and everything still does what it did before.

Any suggestions

do you do repairs? and how much?

im on the island

Does the system continue to turn on then shut off after a certain time? Or is the system just beeping at you when you try to turn it on?

try turning it on with the hard drive removed, guide for that is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sALtEltU010

It sounds like your getting the "YLOD". Yellow Light of death is not something we repair, it usually originates from overheating of the PS3 which causes breaks in the solder connections on the GPU and CPU.

There is a tutorial on how to "try" to fix it with a heat gun, although this is very inconsistant and should only be a last ditch effort.

Click here for that tutorial: http://playstationlifestyle.net/forums/showthread.php?t=2376

it does boot when you turn it on but it doesnt last long before the video starts to strobe and then it shuts off, beeps x3, flickers yellow once then a blinking red.  im just in the middle of the reflow process now so i'll let you know how badly i ruin it once its all back together  jk
